Abstract
Coexisting and intergrown amphiboles have been widely reported in the literature. In 1923 Asklund postulated the existence of a miscibility gap between hornblende and cummingtonite, and since then it has been comprehensively documented. In addition, several other miscibility gaps within the amphibole group have been demonstrated by the discovery of two or more primary amphibole phases in the same rock (see for instance Klein, 1968, 1969; Robinson et al., 1969).
