Abstract

The physical properties of a wave-propagating medium are often described by more complex wave-motion equations than Helmholtz’s equation or dispersion- less Maxwell’s equations. Nevertheless manageable asymptotic solutions can be obtained for caustics in dispersive and anisotropic media, in nonlinear and random media and for related problems of quantum mechanics.
