Abstract

Although 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide is now known as one of the potent carcinogens, the first interest in the biological property of this compound arose out of its strong antibacterial (Arai and Nakayama, 1952) and antifungal activities (Okabayashi, 1953), and this interest has rapidly developed to include its mutagenic and carcinostatic activities.
