Abstract

In comparing the level of occupational segregation by gender in a given country in two different periods, one may wonder whether the change which is observed is mainly due to a modification of the relative importance of the various occupations or whether it is a consequence of variations in the gender ratios in these occupations. The present chapter will attempt to show how it is possible to determine the specific impact of changes in the occupational structure of the labor force and in the gender composition of these occupations on the overall level of occupational segregation by gender.
