Abstract

Rotator cuff disorders and shoulder instability are the most common causes of shoulder pain in our patient population. The incidence of first-time anterior shoulder dislocation is estimated to be between 8 and 24 per 100,000 person-years. Approximately, 300,000 to 400,000 rotator cuff surgeries are performed each year in the United States. Understanding the classification of the different types of injuries and the treatments that lead to the best outcomes for each is very important to the treating surgeon.
