Abstract
Trematodes or flukes normally infect the alimentary canal and associated organs, but some flukes can also infect lungs during their life cycle. Trematode infections are commonly seen in the African countries, Asia and Southeast Asia, and less commonly in the Americas. Trematodes require an intermediate host in their life cycle, with vertebrates as the definitive host. Diagnosis depends on the identification of eggs characteristic of each fluke, either in the stool or in the sputum.
