This chapter explores an approach to reducing stress in the workplace. A case study provides an illustration of tools and techniques that were used by a group of 16 public health specialist practitioners to reduce stress and enhance the level of functioning and performance to improve patient/client care. Section One: provides a brief overview of the nursing profession in the United Kingdom and the approach to regulation to ensure safety and accountability for patient care. Section Two: describes the rate of sickness and absence among staff working in the NHS and the potential impact this has on professional working and the subsequent patient experience. Section Three: provides an example of how organisations may address the stress in the workplace. It includes a case study to illuminate the methods adopted to reduce stress and the subsequent evaluation of this approach in a group of 16 public health specialist practitioners who work in the area of child protection. Section Four summarises the learning from the approach and lists the potential opportunities to transfer this learning to other countries.
