Abstract
Deep penetrating nevus (Robson et al. 2003; Luzar and Calonje 2011) is a distinct entity. It has several peculiar features. Its clinical presentation resembles that of a blue nevus. Histopathologically, it is distinctive for its depth (often extending into the subcutis and almost invariably into the deep reticular dermis), its mostly plexiform pattern, and its dominant population of large pale cells with some nuclear pleomorphism and abundant pale cytoplasm that is distended by vacuolated melanosomes.
