Chapter 1 introduces the topic of the book. Section 1 presents an overview of the importance of logistics and supply chain management in disaster relief operations. Section 2 defines the specific “open” question investigated in the book, referring to cross-sector cooperation in disaster relief management. Section 3 describes the structure of the work. The chapter provides the reader with a brief introduction on the burning topic covered in the book.
