Zusammenfassung

Voraussetzung für die Einleitung einer Ernährungstherapie ist eine möglichst exakte Ermittlung des aktuellen Kalorienbedarfs. Diese ohnehin nicht einfache Aufgabe stellt beim kritisch kranken Patienten aufgrund der im Krankheitsverlauf oft schnell wechselnden metabolischen Situation eine besondere Herausforderung dar. Der Energiebedarf ist dabei regelmäßig neu zu evaluieren und an die Krankheitsphase und an vorliegende Stressfaktoren anzupassen. Die Ernährung des kritisch kranken Patienten muss als ein integraler Therapiebestandteil im multimodalen intensivmedizinischen Therapiekonzept verstanden werden und ist für das Outcome relevant. ähnlich wie bei jeder anderen Therapieform ist es daher wichtig, Zielkriterien zu definieren, die es zu erfüllen gilt. Der ermittelte Kalorienbedarf stellt hierbei eine der notwendigen Größen zur Definition dieser Zielkriterien dar.
