Abstract

Many simulators currently attempt to take account of the human factor in peoples use of infrastructure. The aim of simulating fire evacuation is to analyse how easily a building can be evacuated in different fire scenarios, at the early stages of building design. Such simulations may be used to inform decision-making in implementing various aids to evacuation (signage, smoke extraction systems, …), in reviewing building design, or in the development of building-specific evacuation procedures. In this article we describe a software architecture and a set of concepts for controlling how human behaviour adapts in a fire evacuation scenario.
