Abstract

The imaging technique of optical coherence tomography (OCT) has opened a unique world in the area of ophthalmology, specifically in imaging the human retina. The findings based on the use of OCT have brought new knowledge of the retina and the changes that occur in the retina that previously have not been available in vivo. In addition to the current uses of OCT, new fields of application have recently emerged, and it is believed that additional ones will gain maturity in the near future. In this chapter, we demonstrate the potential use of OCT in the assessment of changes on the blood–retinal barrier and in the neuronal tissue related to the aging process.
