Zusammenfassung

Tracheotomien sind seit Mitteilung in der antiken ägyptischen Medizin eine der ältesten Eingriffe. Heute erscheinen chirurgische Tracheotomien als »Routineeingriff« im klinischen Alltag der chirurgischen Disziplinen und Intensivmedizin für den damit weniger Vertrauten als vermeintlich einfacher und mit wenigen Problemen behafteter Eingriff. Doch der Erfahrene weiß um die Probleme von Tracheotomien in schwierigen anatomischen Situationen, bei ausgedehnten Tumorleiden, postoperativer und/oder strahlentherapiebedingten Veränderungen oder erheblicher Adipositas. Dem erfahrenen Trachealchirurgen begegnen immer wieder Situationen, die entstanden sind, weil durch Missachtung von Grundsätzen dieses scheinbar so »banalen« Eingriffs schwerwiegende und aufwendig zu therapierende Gesundheitsschäden für den Betroffenen entstanden sind.
