Zusammenfassung
Dieser Beitrag beschreibt das Phänomen des Ambush-Marketing. In der Werbeliteratur bezeichnet man damit Aktivitäten von Unternehmen, die sich im Kontext von Sportgroßveranstaltungen werblich präsentieren, ohne selbst Sponsor zu sein. Zunächst werden Beispiele für diese Werbepraxis aufgeführt. Sodann wird auf Basis bereits vorliegender Studien gezeigt, dass Konsumenten eine neutrale Einstellung zu dieser Werbeform haben und dazu tendieren, Ambusher mit Sponsoren zu verwechseln. Eine neue empirische Studie zeigt, dass Konsumenten einen positiven Effekt auf Produktbewertungen korrigieren, wenn sie erfahren, dass es sich bei dem werbenden Unternehmen um einen Ambusher handelt. Veranstaltern und Sponsoren von Sportgroßereignissen wird empfohlen, sich durch eine Aufklärung der breiten Öffentlichkeit vor einer Ausbeutung durch Ambusher zu schützen, indem Ambusher über „schwarze Listen“ publik gemacht werden.
