Zusammenfassung

In den letzten 30 Jahren ist die Entwicklung der Implantologie enorm vorangeschritten. Der Ersatz von Einzelzähnen oder die prothetische Versorgung von zahnlosen oder teilbezahnten Patienten ist heute ein routinemäßiges Einsatzgebiet für Implantate. Anders als dentoalveolär oder schleimhautgetragener Zahnersatz ersetzen Implantate auch die natürlichen Zahnwurzeln im Alveolarfortsatz und beugen so einem fortschreitenden Knochenabbau vor. Daneben finden modifizierte Implantate Einsatz zur Befestigung von Epithesen und dienen als eine Form der kieferorthopädischen Verankerung.
