Zusammenfassung
Die Behandlung von Infektionen ist durch die Gabe von Antibiotika prinzipiell eine kausale Therapie, weil durch den Einsatz dieser Medikamentengruppe gezielt die Ursache der Erkrankung beseitigt wird. Gleichzeitig weist sich diese Therapieform durch eine weitere Besonderheit aus, indem mikrobielle Lebensformen entweder abgetötet (Mikrobizidie) oder zumindest im Wachstum gehemmt (Bakterio- oder Fungistase) werden. Grundsätzlich ist das Ziel einer antiinfektiven Therapie, gezielt den infektionsverursachenden Erreger auszuschalten, was aber – zumindest bei den Bakterien – niemals möglich sein wird, da der Wirkmechanismus z. B. von Antibiotika zu einer undifferenzierten Schädigung bakterieller Strukturen führt und somit nicht selektiv wirkt.
