Abstract

A review of basic concepts of simple graphs introduces the important notion of a strongly gated subgraph. Graph morphisms, along with a theory of universal covers, are described. For any collection C of circuits in a connected graph, there exists a universal C-cover defined by C-homotopy classes of paths emanating from a fixed base vertex. Among criteria for simple C-connectedness, one of these, due to J. Tits, will play a role in Chap. 10.
