Zusammenfassung
Bereits in der Antike wurde Sport als Präventionsmaßnahme gegen psychische Störungen betrachtet. Im weiteren Verlauf der Geschichte der Psychiatrie wurde diesem Aspekt jedoch keine Bedeutung mehr zugemessen, um erst in der zweiten Hälfte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts wieder Beachtung zu finden. Inzwischen liegen etliche Studien vor, die die Wirksamkeit von Bewegungstherapien bei bestimmten psychischen Störungen, insbesondere Depressionen und Angsterkrankungen, belegen.
