Zwei Kommunikationssysteme dienen dem Informationsaustausch zwischen den einzelnen Organen des Körpers: das Nervensystem, insbesondere das im Kap. 6 vorgestellte vegetative Nervensystem, und das endokrine System. Beide Systeme sind funktionell eng miteinander verknüpft. Zusammen regeln und koordinieren sie die Funktion von zum Teil weit voneinander entfernten Organen.
