Keeping Notes

With social bookmarking tools, you can easily keep track of Web sites you've visited and share those sites with friends and colleagues. Social bookmarking sites like Delicious and social reference management sites like Connotea (see Chap. 18) are perfect for simple organization and sharing of Web sites. There comes a time, though, when what you really want is a little more power — the power to mark up the Web.

In this section, we'll go over a few different types of tool that all help you jot down notes, highlight and annotate text on the Web, and share your notes and annotations. Some of these tools are socially oriented — such as Diigo, Fleck, and SharedCopy. Some of these tools can be used to share with others, but are designed more for personal organization and use — such as Evernote, Zotero, and Google Notebook. Whichever the tool, it can help you organize and manage your information and research conveniently.
