Abstract
To my mind, there is nothing prettier than an English chalk meadow on an early summer’s day. Scattered through the closely nibbled turf are yellow, purple, blue, and red flowers of many different hues, sparkling there like little jewels. In the most diverse spots within chalk grassland, there can be more than 50 species of plants packed into a single square meter.
