Abstract
The lumbar spine, located between the chest area and the pelvis, needs to meet two apparently inconsistent static and dynamic requirements: from a static standpoint, resistance to loads and transmission of forces; from a dynamic standpoint, movement. The lumbar area is thus an element of transmission and adaptation, like an elastic shock absorber, which feels the impact of any overlying or underlying disequilibrium.
