Abstract
Molecular phylogenetics is the study of evolutionary relationships among organisms, genes, or proteins, using a combination of molecular biology and statistical techniques. Molecular data are powerful: DNA and protein sequences generally evolve in a more regular manner than morphological and physiological characters. Also, sequence data are amenable to quantitative treatment.
