Abstract
In this chapter Fourier BEM is applied to plate problems. In the first part, the model for the bending of plates is analysed which is due to Kirchhoff1 and which is valid for thin plates where shear deformations can be neglected. For this theory, collocation approaches are well established for the original space, e.g. [AP92, Bes9l]. The Galerkin BIE were only recently developed in [FB98]. In the second part, we consider plates on Winkler foundations for which a collocation approach can be found in [Jah98]. Finally, the refined plate theory of Reissner is discussed, cf. [AP92, Bes91].
