Abstract

■ Uveitis consists of heterogeneous entities, and many decisions regarding cataract surgery remain empirical.

■ The perioperative medical management of inflammation is as important to visual outcome as the procedure by itself.

■ The surgical challenge lies mostly in obtaining a sufficient pupil dilatation.

■ Visual outcome depends mostly on the state of the macula.

■ Cataract surgery in Fuchs heterochromic cyclitis usually has a better visual outcome than other causes of uveitis.

■ Cataract surgery in idiopathic juvenile arthritis usually has a worse visual outcome than other causes of uveitis.
