Abstract
It probably occurred at one of the industry exhibitions in Hanover. As the person in charge of the Siemens stand, among other things - of greeting customers and other honored guests of the Siemens company, on one occasion, Mr. Scharioth from NFO Infratest was one of these special guests and it was a pleasure to talk and discuss with him. We rapidly alighted on a topic of great interest to both of us: quality assessment in the area of services, particularly in training. At that time I was in charge of the worldwide training activities in the field of automation for Siemens. My brief was to support the broad spectrum of new sales activities through training in such a way that Siemens would become a leading player in the automation sector. This goal was indeed achieved. In fact, in the area of core systems for automation - the stored program control systems, SPS - Siemens is now the No. 1 player in the world market. A significant precondition for this success was the transfer of an enormous amount of knowledge and experience both to the Siemens staff involved and to the staff working in this field at customer companies.
