Und David Carr (2007), Medien-Kolumnist der „New York Times“, spekulierte bereits zwei Jahre später darüber, wie Historiker die heutige Zeit im Rückblick bewerten werden: „Mit einer gewissen Wahrscheinlichkeit werden sie diese Periode der amerikanischen Geschichte examinieren und darüber erstaunt sein, dass der Journalismus verschwunden ist.“ Walter Isaacson (2009), Ex-Chefredakteur von „Time“, wiederum konstatierte, die Krise des Journalismus habe „das Ausmass einer Kernschmelze“ erreicht.
