Zusammenfassung
Während sich einige Netzwerkforscher mit der Verdichtung von sozialen Beziehungen und kohäsiven Teilbereichen in Netzen beschäftigen und intensive, multiplexe Ties als erklärungsmächtig hervorheben, beschäftigen sich andere Theoretiker mit den schwachen Beziehungen und dem Fehlen von Beziehungen in Netzwerken (Burt 1992a, Granovetter 1973). Dabei geht es um die strukturelle Einbettung der Akteure in deren Nachbarschaftsknoten und den daraus erwachsenden Handlungsmöglichkeiten und -restriktionen. Eine Person, die mit Personen Verbindungen unterhält, die ihrerseits untereinander nicht direkt verbunden sind, erlangt die Möglichkeit, zwischen diesen Kontakten zu vermitteln und daraus Vorteile zu erzielen. Die Ties einer solchen Person überbrücken strukturelle Löcher im Netzwerk.
