Zusammenfassung
Das Buch “Words in the mind” von Jean Aitchison wird knapp vorgestellt Ausgehend von dieser Darstellung der modernen Forschungen zum “mentalen Lexikon” werden diese Metapher für das verbale Gedächtnis und die Vorstellung, daß Wörter im saussureschen Sinne Einheiten darin darstellen, kritisch betrachtet.
Abstract
Jean Aitchison’s book “Words in the mind” is briefly introduced. Based upon this report of the state of art of psycholinguistic research on the “mental lexicon”, the value of this metaphor is questioned. It is also argued that words as bilateral signs in the saussurean sense are presumably not the basic elements of verbal memory.
