Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and small cell carcinoma comprise the three most frequent histological subtypes of primary carcinomas arising in the upper gastrointestinal (UGI) tract [1, 2]. The two former subtypes, which account for the majority, are described in more detail.
