Abstract

Eric Topol, the author of The Creative Destruction of Medicine, calls our attention to a quote from Voltaire who wrote, “doctors prescribe medicine of which they know little, to cure disease of which they know less, in human beings of which they know nothing”. Topol uses this quote, seemingly, to challenge us to rethink our assumptions about the practice of medicine and how little it reflects what actually matters most to patients.
