Abstract
Tourism and natural environment are a binomial difficult to separate. In this paper, the evolution of the institutional context of environmental character is studied during the 2007–2010 period, comprising one of the most severe phases of recession in the contemporary Spanish economy. For the purposes of this study we have selected golf tourism (as an economic activity that, potentially, can generate strong environmental impacts for its development) and Andalusia as the leading regional golf tourism destination in Spain. Once identified the institutional pressures of environmental nature (coercive, normative and mimetic) impacting on it, we have used the Partial Least Square (PLS) technique to analyze their evolution and its influence on the construct of Environmental Responsibility in these organizations, which play a relevant role within the tourism offer in Spain. This way, a dynamic view of institutionalist principles and their evolution will be given, which determine the social legitimacy of tourism organizations in general and golf courses in particular. As main conclusions, we observed that, over time, the institutional environment in the sector of Andalusian golf courses has increased its power of influence and its capacity to boost isomorphism, determining the environmental policies of such organizations.
