Abstract
Cytokines play an important role in the regulation of immune responses. Markedly elevated interleukin 6 (IL-6) and IL-1 receptor antagonist concentrations were found at the time of PMR diagnosis, thus prior to start of glucocorticoid therapy. On the other hand, systemic concentrations of other antiinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and IL-1 beta were comparable with those measured in healthy controls (1).
