Abstract
The project proposes a new train station on a site located in the center of Chicago city. It envisions the undulating roof structure of the station to form an urban park, from which the tracks below can easily be accessed. Accordingly, the diploma focuses on the development of the station roof as key element of the design, elaborating it as a porous structure which can assume a wide variety of different states: From opaque shelter to translucent textile, operable roof to highly articulate park-scape. In order to achieve as wide a range of different affects /effects as possible the design deploys a parametric design model by setting up associative rules for the adaptively interacting subsystems.
