To your friendly letter of 15 of this month I reply that I am extremely sympathetic to your plan to arrange an edition of the collected papers of my father. Whether thereby you would include the two editions of the Ausdehnungslehre themselves, and whether this might include the [1878 reprint of the] edition of 44, since it is still in stock in bookshops, I do not yet see clearly. On account of the suggestion of Herr Gibbs, to publish the Prüfungsarbeit // of my father on the Ebb and Flow of Tides, I wrote my brother a few days before as a result of an inquiry by Herr Gibbs to my brother Justus, who is now senior teacher in Brandenburg and in whose hands the rough copy of the Work is found.
