Résumé
Durant la seconde moitié du xxe siècle, les antidépresseurs étaient exclusivement représentés par la classe des antidépresseurs tricycliques. La commercialisation en Europe de nouveaux antidépresseurs dans les années 1980 et l’essor des prescriptions dans les années 1990, permettent de faire à ce jour plusieurs constats : les campagnes médico-psychiatriques visant à améliorer la prise en charge de la dépression ont vu multiplier par deux à trois les prescriptions d’antidépresseurs ; les nouveaux antidépresseurs non polycycliques sont majoritairement prescrits (2/3 des cas) ; de nombreux patients ont bénéficié d’un relais entre antidépresseurs polycycliques et nouveaux antidépresseurs ; sous traitement par nouveaux antidépresseurs, le nombre global de passage à l’acte et les formes graves d’intoxication seraient moins fréquents. Ces évolutions sont certainement multifactorielles et peu comprises, mais la résultante est une meilleure appréhension de la pathologie dépressive, et une moindre incidence des intoxications par antidépresseurs.
