Résumé
Le cancer du sein est le cancer le plus fréquent chez la femme dans les pays développés avec 50 000 nouveaux cas par an en France et environ 10 000 morts chaque année. La très grande majorité des décès en rapport avec un cancer du sein est due à des métastases, en particulier osseuses, pulmonaires, hépatiques et cérébrales. Le processus métastatique est un processus complexe comprenant l’invasion de cellules tumorales à travers la membrane basale, leur passage dans le système vasculaire, la survie de ces cellules tumorales dans la circulation sanguine, la colonisation de la paroi vasculaire et l’extravasation des cellules tumorales dans les organes cibles, et enfin la croissance tumorale au sein des organes cibles pour former une métastase (1).
