Abstract
All three layers of the heart can be affected by lupus. Blood vessel involvement is a central feature of the pathology of lupus, causing not just inflammatory small vessel vasculitis, but also thrombosis in the veins and arteries, and later in the course of the disease, accelerated atheroma in a significant number of patients.
