Abstract
Temporal databases represent events that occur in time. There is a long tradition in computer science of dealing with temporal data, and many ways of dealing with temporal data were discovered. Section 5.1 reviews Allen’s temporal relations, which had a great influence in artificial intelligence and database systems. Section 5.2 discusses temporal data models. Section 5.3 discusses indefinite temporal data models. Section 5.4 considers temporal queries.
