Abstract

Queries often aim to discover what the data predict, that is, imply for the future, or what other precious patterns may be discovered from the data. This chapter considers these two types of queries. In particular, Section 19.1 considers predictions in the context of environmental modeling, where many important prediction problems from global warming to deforestation occur. Section 19.2 discusses data mining. Section 19.3 considers model-based diagnosis.
