Abstract

The obstructed airway presents a potentially life-threatening and terrifying (for both clinician and patient!) clinical situation. At all times a thorough assessment is required and highly skilled and experienced staff should be involved from an early stage. It is imperative that management is underpinned by a sound understanding of the possible underlying pathol-ogies and the pitfalls associated with clinical intervention.
