Abstract

The original stapled transanal rectal resection (STARR) technique utilized two firings of a PPH01 stapler to achieve separate anterior and posterior resections of the distal rectum. More recently, a device specifically designed for STARR has been introduced: the Contour Transtar. This enables a greater extent of prolapse to be resected as a single specimen. Both techniques are described in detail together with “tips and tricks” for a successful outcome.
