Abstract
Constructing effective teams based on C. J. Jung’s originally qualitative personality theory needs a quantitative version. This is accomplished through a rigorous 4X4 linear transformation of four cognitive mode questionnaire scores on to Jung’s cognitive modes arranged in four complementary pairs. The informal but rigorous proof of the homogeneous transformation involves mapping four extreme combinations of the questionnaire variables to four extreme points of the mode space. Three of the questionnaire variables were conceived by Jung; the fourth, by Katherine Briggs, co-author of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The cognitive mode questionnaire, based on the twenty “facets” of Quenk, Hammer and Majors’ MBTI Step II theory, is scaled to produce integer mode scores for arithmetic convenience. The longer MBTI can also be used if its by clarity values are divided by six, although the mode score results will not be integers. The Keirsey-Bates Temperament Sorter, suitably scaled, can also be used for team construction and organization.
