Abstract
Background: Small bowel procurement demands both experience and surgical skill from the surgeon. There are few regional teams in Europe, which are sufficiently experienced in small bowel dissection and procurement. The small bowel, in most cases, is retrieved by the recipient centre team experienced in the field of small bowel retrieval and transplantation. There are a number of different techniques concerning preparation of the intestinal graft, vascular pedicle dissection and finally bowel retrieval. Based on literature, the surgical technique of small bowel dissection is described gradually in this chapter so that it can be easily understood and performed by experienced surgeons.
Conclusion: A well-trained regional team can successfully manage most multi-organ procurements including liver, pancreas, and seldom intestine, from the same donor.
