Abstract

Gastroparesis is a very heterogeneous syndrome. Patients may present with predominant nausea and vomiting resulting in weight loss, dehydration, and frequent hospitalizations. Some may have symptoms consistent with functional dyspepsia while others may have heartburn and effortless regurgitation suggestive of gastroesophageal reflux disease. In addition to the upper gastrointestinal symptoms, psychological symptoms may need to be considered. In this chapter, the many facets of the clinical presentation of gastroparesis are presented.
