My first recommendation: Do not rely on the government for anything! Whatever the government gives it can take away. If Social Security and/or Medicare are still providing benefits when you retire, consider whatever you receive “gravy.” If you expect either of these programs to provide a significant percentage of your retirement needs, you may be disappointed. The government is already ten trillion dollars in debt and has just been forced to take over Fannie Mae (FNM), Freddie Mac (FRE) and American International Group (AIG). There just may not be anything left when you retire.
