Abstract
Johns Hopkins introduced acupuncture in The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in September 2005 to provide an expanded service for our Complementary and Integrative Medicine Center. The current goal of our acupuncture service is predominately to relieve the side effects of cancer treatment. In this chapter, we briefly review current biomedical treatments and any available data on the role of acupuncture for common side effects of cancer therapy, that is, oral mucositis, peripheral neuropathy, nausea/vomiting, and fatigue. The need for integrative cancer care requires good clinical trials to evaluate the possible clinical benefits of acupuncture and to investigate its underlying mechanism.
