Abstract
The modern meat-type broiler chicken is extremely fast growing and efficient. Much of the credit for this phenomenal ability to produce muscle with a minimum of feed must go to geneticists and nutritionists who have made great advances in breeding and feeding broilers. Nevertheless, impressive improvements in the management of broilers have also contributed significantly to the efficiency of broiler production. Proper management has become more critical, precisely because of the incredibly fast growth rate of today’s high performing broiler. The modern broiler is much less forgiving of environmental errors than the bird of a few years ago, making broiler management more challenging than ever before.
