Abstract
Gambling has always existed, but only recently has it taken on the endlessly colorful and infinitely accessible forms we know today. Legalized gambling opportunities have markedly increased in most industrialized countries and, beyond any doubt, gambling is now a widespread phenomenon. While most people gamble occasionally, some people become addicted to gambling. The accessibility and availability of gambling opportunities are in direct relation to the number of pathological gamblers in a given area. This has created a situation in which more and more people are likely to develop serious gambling problems, for which they will need to seek professional help.
