Abstract

Although there are many aspects that can define the eyepiece, the single most important trait for many observers is the apparent field of view (AFOV) of the eyepiece. This one aspect of the eyepiece, more than any other, influences observers first impressions, and continued impressions as they use the eyepiece. In this chapter, the various eyepiece brands and lines will be categorized by the AFOV class they fall within, 40°, 50°, 60°, 70°, 80–90°, 100°, and 120°. For each class, the pioneers, top performers, and some of those with the most distinctive traits are detailed.
